Red Renchin, a Hall Of Fame farrier and technical editor of American Farriers Journal, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015. He was 70.

The Mequon, Wis., and Wellington, Fla., farrier started shoeing horses while he was attending Albert Lea High School in Albert Lea, Minn. He continued his trade throughout his service in the U.S. Air Force. Renchin became well-known throughout the industry for his outstanding work with hunters and jumpers at all levels of competition, including the Olympics. He operated a successful multifarrier business for many years in southeast Wisconsin, northeast Illinois and Wellington, Fla., until he was diagnosed with cancer. He retired from farriery to become an award-winning writer as technical editor for the American Farriers Journal.

Renchin was inducted into the International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame in 1995 and was a frequent a speaker at the International Hoof-Care Summit. Renchin served as an outstanding clinician at various hoofcare events around the country. He was a American Farrier’s Association certified farrier, an honorary life member of the American Association of Professional Farriers and the Upper Midwest Horseshoers Association.

No funeral or memorial services will be held; however, a gathering will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 at the Highland House, 2741 North Port Washington Road, Mequon, WI 53092.
