Laminitis — Defined In Terms Everyone Can Understand

Ever have a client with a first-time laminitic horse that had a hard time fully understanding what this dreadful disease is all about?

If so, you might want to define it in the simple, harsh and easy-to-understand terms used by Bo Brock, a veterinarian in Lamesa, Texas. In a recent issue of dvm360 magazine, he offered this definition of laminitis:

“Imagine if all of your fingernails were slammed in a door and turned red and then black. Now imagine if you had to stand with those fingers holding your weight all day long.”

 Like most farriers, owners and veterinarians, Brock says seeing a horse go through the pain of laminitis is always a sickening situation.
