Update to Article, Sept. 27, 2018 — The deadline to apply for the Frank Gravlee Scholarship is fast approaching.

Veterinary students and recent graduates (within 2 years) must submit applications by Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, to qualify for consideration. Two applicants will be selected to receive free registration, transportation and lodging at the 2019 International Hoof-Care Summit (IHCS) in Cincinnati, Ohio. The IHCS will take place Jan. 22-25, 2019, at the Duke Energy Convention Center and the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza hotel.

Applicants must submit a recommendation letter from a professor or employer and complete the application. In addition, an essay must be submitted that focuses on why they would like to receive the scholarship and how it would affect their veterinary practice.

The American and International Associations of Professional Farriers (AAPF/IAPF) is accepting applications for the Frank Gravlee Scholarship.

The Frank Gravlee Scholarship is intended for veterinarian students and recent graduates (within 2 years) to enhance their education by attending the 2019 International Hoof-Care Summit (IHCS).

This is the second year the scholarship is being offered. It was established in 2017 by equine veterinarian Frank Reilly to honor International Veterinarian Hall of Famer Frank Gravlee.

Gravlee founded Life Data Labs in Cherokee, Ala. His work developing new products and dedication to horse health is greatly respected in the equine community.

Two applicants will be selected to receive free registration, transportation and lodging at the IHCS in Cincinnati, Ohio.

To be eligible, applicants must be a current veterinary student or recent graduate of a North American equine veterinarian college or university. Additionally, applicants must have never attended the IHCS and must be able to attend the AAPF/IAPF Annual General Membership meeting at the Summit. Preference will be given to students who have displayed an interest in equine hoof-care.

Interested veterinary students and graduates should submit a recommendation letter from a professor or employer and fill out an application here. Applicants must submit an essay in the application about why they would like to receive the scholarship and how it would affect their veterinary practice.

Last year’s recipients were Daniel B. Bastian, DVM APF-I, of Hesperia, Calif., and Summer R. Pepper, APF, of Yorba Linda, Calif.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 1, 2018 and winners will be announced by Nov. 1, 2018.
