Renowned farrier and member of the Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame Lee Liles passed away May 11, 2018, at the age of 68. He was well-known in the industry for founding and curating the National Museum of Horse Shoeing Tools, which he started as a private collection and expanded into a source of knowledge for the entire farrier community.

Lee’s love of farriery and passion for sharing its history with others made a mark with many of the people who met him. He treated many museum visitors to personal tours.

Lee Liles was a pillar of the farrier community and industry. He will be greatly missed by many. To honor his legacy and contributions to the industry, we would like to share tributes and memories other farriers have written about him.

A Truly Amazing Man

Lee was a very close friend to me for over 40 years. I have great memories and stories that would take hours to tell.

Lee’s knowledge of the history of horseshoeing and tools of the trade was as good as it gets. I would say he was a genius: he did the homework and gave credit to thousands of men and women who contributed to our trade. He created a museum collection covering every aspect of horseshoeing that is second to none, and gave the best educational tours ever.
