The late International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame member Lee Liles will be honored through his love of horseshoeing tools. Liles has been laid to rest in three anvil urns created by Chuck Milne, owner of Texas Farrier Supply in Kennedale, Texas. This is a fitting honor for someone who respected the farrier craft so deeply.

Former American Farrier’s Association President Dick Fanguy talked about the memorial for the lost legend.

“Jim Keith did a rendering of Lee’s face, and it’s attached to the sides of the anvils,” Fanguy told American Farriers Journal. Keith is a farrier, toolmaker and artist from Tucumcari, N.M., and a member of the International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame. The anvils are made of A356 aluminum.

The three anvils have been distributed to different recipients. One went to Liles’ widow Alma, the other to his daughter Samantha and the last to the museum Liles founded, the National Museum of Horseshoeing Tools in Sulphur, Okla.

“Lee was the only one in the United States who really recorded the history,” says Fanguy, a Saint Gabriel, La., farrier.

Each anvil will go to a different person or place that Liles held dear, including his wife, his daughter and his museum.
