New Zealand farrier and horse trainer Kevin George "K.G." Crampton passed away Jan. 4, 2019. He was 82.
For over 50 years, Crampton had been a race day farrier. One champion in particular, three-year-old McGinty, was routinely shod by Crampton. The farrier was also a horse trainer, sending Beechcraft to win the 1983 Gr. 1 Caulfield Guineas.
Trainer Kim Clotworthy, long-time friend of Crampton, spoke on his behalf in the recent obituary.
"He was a proper for Manurewa and one of the strongest men you would ever see," Clotworthy says. "Even when the doctors gave him less than a week to live, he lasted another six."
Clotworthy reminisces about the strong man Crampton was and his reputation for always wearing shorts, no matter what the weather was.
Funeral details have yet to be released.
