How Many Horses are There in the United States?

The American Horse Council estimates there are 7.2 million horses in the United States. A total of 13% of U.S. households own horses while 31% of households include a family member who is interested in horses.

The three leading states for horse numbers are Texas with 767,000 horses, California with 534,500 horses and Florida with 387,100 horses.
