What's This? A Truly ‘Gripping’ Find

Answer:

According to Steve Kraus, Cornell University’s head of farrier services and senior lecturer, the shoe depicted was typically used on light draft horses for traction on ice about 100 years ago. These shoes are either Giant Grips or Never Slip calks.

Genuine Giant Grip Horse Shoe Calks were driven with a punch. To remove the calks, the company said you needed a special extractor. If you have more information about the shoe, please share it with us at info@lessitermedia.com.
