How do you look at feet? Looking in terms of steel length instead of standard factory shoe sizes may offer a number of benefits in everyday shoeing as well as forging competitions, according to Vern Powell, CJF (TE). Powell is the owner of MVP's Farrier Services in Marengo, Ill. and the chairman of the American Farrier's Association Cultural Exchange Program.  

Powell, who also serves as a Region 3 Director of the AFA, learned this tip when he participated in the cultural exchange in 2006 and was able to spend time with International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame member Gary Darlow.
