Changes are coming for how American Farriers Team members are selected.

The American Farriers Team Committee announced that spots on the American Farriers Team will be earned through a series of three competitions.

The first two will be team trials conducted in May and September. The final competition will take place at November’s American Farrier’s Association National Forging & Horseshoeing Competition. Points will be accumulated at each of the three events.

The first competition will be May 14-15, 2021, at Five Star Horseshoeing School in Minco, Okla. The judges are Irvine, Ky., farrier Nigel Fennell, AWCF,  and Jordan, Minn., farrier Bodie Trnka, CJF.

The shoe list will be released when registration opens on Jan. 18. Registration for earning a spot on the team is open to the first 30 registrants. Those who register after the spots are filled will be added to a wait list. Specimen shoes will be released to all competitors after registration closes. Competition rules will also be distributed at that time.

Those earning a spot on the team will serve a 1 year commitment, rather than the traditional 2.
