Long Island, N.Y., farrier Marty Barbera passed away July 7, 2021, according to a long-time friend.

“His death is such a great loss to the Long Island horse community and an even greater loss to those of us who loved and adored him,” Andrea Mercier says in a Go Fund Me post. “I knew Marty for 35 years. He was part of my barn family. The barn will not be the same without him.”

Barbera contracted COVID-19 and experienced major complications as a result of other health problems.
