Valley Springs, Calif., farrier E.B. “Bud” Harris passed away Jan. 17, 2022, following a stroke. He was 81.
Harris was a horseshoer and cowboy all his life. He grew up in the desert around Yuma, Ariz., taking to horses and a farrier by age 14. Right after high school in 1959, he joined the U.S. Navy peacetime service on aviation carriers near Hawaii and Japan until 1963. He returned to Arizona for college and rodeo. Harris moved to Alameda County, California, in the late 1960s where he worked as farrier, cowboy, ranch and rodeo hand and was district president of California High School Rodeo Association during the 1970s.
He loved being a farrier, driving his pickup around the valley, always a toothpick in his mouth. Bud spent the 1980s and 1990s shoeing in the Oakdale area. He retired in 2002.
