La Grange, Ky., farrier Sam Jorris Sr. passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at Audubon Hospital after a month-long struggle with health issues. He was 76.
Jorris was a farrier by profession. He provided hoof care throughout Oldham County, as well as other parts of Kentucky. His love of horses began as a young boy, and much to the delight of the neighborhood children, he would bring a horse from a nearby farm and take every child who had lined up for a ride. As a young man, he participated in cutting competitions throughout the area. Throughout his career, he was affiliated with the American Farrier’s Association, the Kentucky Racing Association, the American Cutting Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, the Louisville Polo Club and the Hard Scuffle Steeplechase.
Jorris will be remembered and celebrated in the spring, when family and friends can gather in a safer, warmer manner.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, 1841 Paynes Depot Rd., Georgetown, KY 40324.
