Mike Rowe Works Foundation Offers Scholarship

Are you a farrier student in need of help paying for your shoeing school education? You might qualify for the Mike Rowe Works Foundation scholarship.

The foundation is providing a total of $1 million for the 2022 Worth Ethic Scholarship Program. The deadline is at 11: 59 p.m. PT on April 14, 2022.

“Through this program, we recognize people who understand the importance of work ethic, personal responsibility, delayed gratification and a positive attitude,” according to the foundation. “These are hardworking men and women who will keep the lights on, water running and air flowing. These are people who show up early, stay late and bust their asses day in and out. It’s not for everyone. Hard workers are hard to find, but we know you’re out there.”

Heartland Horseshoeing School graduate Bryanna Solmonson of Lexington, Mo., was a recipient of a 2021 scholarship, as reported in the March 2022 issue of American Farriers Journal.

Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation Earmarks $1.6 million for Projects

Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation will spend $1,661,180 to fund 25 scientific research projects. Of the projects, 15 are new, while 10 are continuing projects.

Several of the projects are of interest to farriers, including a newly funded study on insulin dysregulation. Andrew van Eps, a professor of Equine Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Pennsylvania, examines the effects of sirolimus, a drug that is an insulin production suppressor, in treating insulin dysregulation, a common cause of laminitis.
