American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
Three young farriers who have made exceptional professional progress within 3 years of graduating from farrier school were honored at the 20th annual International Hoof-Care Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio
Marie Miyake of Tokyo, Japan; Colton Ellis of Kearneysville, W.Va.; and David Reed of Carbondale, Kan.; were recognized as the 2023 recipients of the Rising Shoeing Star Award. Each winner received $500, a plaque, a 1-year subscription to American Farriers Journal, the AFJ “Kitchen Sink” package (a footcare library with more than 3,500 pages of reference material) and free registration to the Summit. The schools that produced the three winners also received plaques and copies of the Kitchen Sink package.
The award, which was created in 2009, is co-sponsored by Pyranha, Equine Medical and Surgical Associates, Straight Arrow Products and Vetericyn.
To nominate a farrier who graduated from a footcare school in 2020, please send a letter detailing when your nominee graduated, what shoeing school they attended and what they’ve accomplished since graduating.
