The American Farriers Team won the 2023 Winter Classic Team Challenge in mid-March at Spy Coast Farm in Lexington, Ky.
The team consisting of Daniel Jones of Fairhope, Ala.; Chris Madrid of Stanley, N.M.; Tom Petersen of Bozeman, Mont.; and Bodie Trnka of Jordan, Minn.; racked up 852.9 points to finish first. Team WCB finished second with 845.4, followed closely by Team Well-Shod with 844.3 points.
Team WCB edged the American Farriers Team, 283-282.7, to kick off the event in the Well-Shod Draft Class. Team Well-Shod followed with 281.8 points. The American Farriers Team took the lead on day two by collecting 285.8 points during the DE Hoof Taps Tooled and Fullered Class for a total score of 568.5 with Team WCB and Team Well-Shod trailing 563.2 and 562.9, respectively. Madrid scored 71.8 points to be awarded the Best Shod Foot in the DE Hoof Taps Tooled and Fullered Class.
The American Farriers Team sealed their victory by scoring 284.4 points on FootPro Roadster Day to push their insurmountable total to 852.9 points. Team WCB finished second with 282.2 points, and Team Well Shod finished third with 282.2 points.
The judges for the event were Chad Chance of Pilot Point, Texas, and Robert Jukes of Weatherford, Texas.
