American Farriers Journal
American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
Good farriers understand that no horseshoe, in and of itself, helps a horse get over any problem. The proper trim, placement and application of any horseshoe is as important — and probably more so — than the choice of the horseshoe itself.
This particularly is true of horses in therapeutic or corrective situations. The same shoe that greatly benefits a horse when properly used can cause untold damage if not used correctly.
Therapeutic shoes are often light-weight aluminum, composite materials and polyurethane that relieve, alleviate and benefit a variety of pathologies with roller motion, hoof flexibility and controlled release points to reduce leverage forces on internal structures that are potentially damaged or strained.
