Kentucky farrier Donald “Donnie” Ropp passed away May 13, 2024. He was 64.
Dr. Wayne Nichols mentored Ropp as a teenager when he began riding Thoroughbred racehorses. After spending a short time as a jockey, he became Jack Van Berg’s assistant trainer and was part of Alysheba’s successful career. Later, he became a farrier, which he continued to do for the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his wife, five children and eight grandchildren.
