Cape Town, South Africa, farrier Greg Dabbs passed away July 14, 2024, after a battle with Alzheimer's. He was 71.

Dabbs was born and raised in Cape Town and had ridden horses since he was a child. He was an accomplished horseman, show jumper, jockey and farrier.

“Greg worked for the Bass Racing yard as our farrier for many, many years,” says Candice Bass-Robinson of the Bass Racing team. “Besides being a highly respected colleague, he became a good friend to our entire family and staff. He was a brilliant farrier and was extremely dedicated to his profession and craft.”

Dabbs is survived by his wife, son, daughter and two sisters. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4 at the Dabbs’ home.
