The mikeroweWORKS Foundation awards work ethic scholarships each year to hard-working, disciplined young men and women to help them offset the education, tool and startup costs of entering the trades. Its 2024 recipients include six farriers, four of whom are students at Kentucky Horseshoeing School (KHS).
In a recent Facebook post, KHS congratulated its scholarship winners Hope Richardson of Berea, Ky., Emily Robinson of Nicholson, Pa., Dillon Johnson of Nancy, Ky., and Annabelle Orlowski of Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
The two additional farriers awarded include Emerie and Dawson, who were highlighted on the mikeroweWORKS Foundation Facebook page.
“We’re on a mission to help close the skills gap by challenging the stigmas and stereotypes that discourage people from pursuing the millions of available jobs,” according to the Foundation’s website.
“Dirty Jobs” star Mike Rowe highlights the importance of skilled labor and encourages young people to pursue trades by awarding $1 million in scholarships annually. Recipients must be enrolled in an approved trade program at an accredited 2-year college, vocational or technical school in the United States during the academic year the scholarship is awarded. Applicants are evaluated based on their S.W.E.A.T. pledge answers, video submissions and references. Finalists are selected based on financial need.
