South African farrier Robbie Dawson passed away Oct. 9, 2024. He was 59.

Dawson was known in his equine community as “Mr. Fixit” and as a passionate and innovative farrier, according to Gold Circle. He was from a KwaZulu-Natal horseracing family, which also runs Stonyhurst riding school. Dawson graduated from the Herefordshire, Ludlow & North Shropshire College of Farriery.

At the 2022 Hollywoodbets Durban July, Dawson shod seven of the July winners and five previous winners. During his career, he was the on-course farrier at the Bath and Ascot courses in the United Kingdom. Dawson was also a mentor to many current South African farriers.

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and many family and friends. Dawson’s celebration of life was Friday, Oct. 18, 2024.
