The Use of Bisphosphonates from an Equine Veterinary Podiatrist Perspective
|
Clinical trials showing clodronate (Osphos) can reduce symptoms of pain in horses with navicular syndrome and in-vitro studies showing anti-inflammatory effects of clodronate have been investigated. In conjunction with therapeutic shoeing, clodronate has been used to increase the time of sound performance in equine athletes, as well as those recovering from laminitis and other foot-related lameness.
Dr. Ellen Staples of Dechra briefly discusses pharmacokinetics, safety and presents updated research to preclude several case-based discussions of the use of clodronate by an equine veterinary podiatrist.
You’ll learn: how clodronate can benefit your clients’ horses with navicular syndrome.

Coronitis & Coronitis Associated with Canker
|
Coronitis refers to a variety of changes in the appearance of the coronary band. It is not a diagnosis, rather it’s defined as an inflammation of the coronary band. It is extremely challenging to resolve when combined with canker in horses. Frank Reilly, DVM, of Pennsylvania and Esco Buff, PhD, APF-I, CF, of Florida discuss both types of coronitis, their challenges and treatments.
You'll learn: how to recognize and effectively treat coronitis and coronitis associated with canker.
