Canadian farrier says paying attention to quality in promotion is more important than a big advertising budget

Like any other business that markets a product or service, farriers need to attract clients who are prepared to exchange their hard-earned dollars for our professional service. Whether you’re starting a new practice, starting over in a new area or simply maintaining an existing business, the image you present to the buying public is extremely important.

As we build a substantial footcare practice, many of our customers will wind up being part of a regular rotation, giving us some assurance of continuing business. Some clients will leave us for various reasons and we may drop some others for our own reasons. But if we manage our business well, we will develop a good customer base. But we shouldn’t think of this as guaranteeing future earnings. Most businesses I am aware of continue to advertise, even when they are successful. I believe we also need to keep our credentials before the buying public.

There is a popular myth out there that if farriers are continually trying to get their names out before potential clients, they are “crying” for business That’s absurd. All businesses that want to remain viable continually promote products or services. Why should we be different? By continually promoting our business, we demonstrate our desire and commitment to building a successful practice and providing a quality service.
