American Farriers Journal
American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
Farriers in two states have an opportunity to get involved with new horseshoeing associations, thanks in part to the efforts of Don Koglin of Ubly, Mich., and Bruce Matthews of Hyde Park, Vt.
Koglin is starting a Michigan Chapter of the Brotherhood of Working Farriers.
“We want to educate the horse owners, other farriers, veterinarians and the community about good horse care and other equine-related topics,” Koglin told the Huron Daily Tribune. “It’s important for people to know what a good balanced horse looks like and how to properly care for it.”
Koglin says the Michigan BWFA will start taking members in March and told the Daily Tribune that he plans to run for president. He says he has been a member of the national BWFA since 1993. Koglin has also been a past president of the Michigan Horseshoer’s Association, the state chapter of the American Farrier’s Association. He has been shoeing horses for 37 years.

Bruce Matthews has set up what he hopes will be the first meeting of the Vermont Farriers Association for March 3 in Ruland. Matthews, of Hyde Park, says the meeting is something that he’s been working toward for more than 2 years.
Matthews says he and Ken Norman, a farrier from Ruland, have been calling farriers all over the state to let them know about the meeting…
