American Farriers Journal
American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
AN OUTPOURING OF EMOTION and support helped make the Burney Chapman Memorial Quilt auction a huge success. In honor of the highly skilled, incredibly gifted late Burney Chapman, from Lubbock, Texas, this quilt, sold at last winter’s American Farrier’s Association (AFA) convention, raised $4,000.
Bob Peacock of the Farrier Science Clinic in Hamilton, Ohio, was the high bidder and took home this beautiful, decorative quilt while also knowing that his money was going to a pair of worthy causes.
During his time as a respected farrier, Chapman dedicated himself to a pair of educational funds that are sure to benefit farriers and horses well into the future, the AFA Equine Research Fund and the Jim Linzy Memorial Fund.
The AFA Equine Research Fund, which sponsors hoof-care research that is of special interest to farriers, received $2,000 from the quilt auction.
Also receiving $2,000 was the Jim Linzy Memorial Fund, which honors the memory of Jim Linzy, a Pine Bluff, Ark., a farrier who was brutally murdered in his shoeing shop in 1990. This fund helps farriers who are out of work due to on-the-job injuries while also contributing to the establishment of the Jim Linzy lecture series at future AFA conventions as well as the World Farrier’s Association’s Working Together For Equines farrier training program.
The queen-size quilt was made from 80 10-by-10-inch quilt squares that were stitched together. It’s safe to say that Peacock will enjoy this quality craftsmanship for many years to come.
