Forget saving the best for last. The very first full-body shoeing rig that Clay Flynn, Moncks Corner, S.C., put together turned out to be the most impressive rig among all the entrants at the recent American Farrier’s Association (AFA) convention. 

The rig, which was built by Stone Well Bodies, has renewed Flynn’s shoeing career.

“It’s made a huge difference in the way I feel about going to work,” Flynn says. “It’s really improved my confidence in my abilities as a farrier.”

15-Year Wait

After 15 years of shoeing horses out of a cap mounted on the back of his pickup truck, Flynn decided to improve his shoeing business by investing in a full-body rig. After a year of looking at what works and what doesn’t work for other farriers, Flynn knew exactly what he wanted. 

Instead of the limited working space that a shoeing cap on the back of a pickup truck provided, he needed more room for equipment and wanted more space to better organize his tools and equipment. 

“I like organization, it speeds me up,” Flynn says. “I keep my truck clean because appearance is the first thing a customer is going to notice.”
