American Farriers Journal
American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
On Dec. 18, Mustad Hoofcare announced the acquisition of the Farrier Products Division of Simonds International. Both companies have a long history in the footcare business, as each firm was founded in 1832.
Simonds has manufactured quality rasps and other farrier products at its plant in Newcomerstown, Ohio, for many years. Mustad is a 174-year-old company that sells under the Mustad umbrella of branded hoof-care products that are manufactured globally and distributed worldwide.
“The Simonds rasps fit well strategically with our hoof-care product portfolio,” says Hans Mustad. “We are excited about this opportunity to expand our hoof-care products offering to our customers. This acquisition will allow us to provide our customers with another high-quality, valued product line from Mustad.”
Plans call for the Simonds rasp operation to be seamlessly integrated into Mustad’s manufacturing and global distribution operations.
“We would like to thank (Mustad executive) Carlos Lara for his outstanding dedication, hard work and leadership in bringing this acquisition to completion,” adds Clarin Mustad. “We are proud to continue the legacy of Simonds in the farrier industry and are thankful for Mr. Lara’s efforts and cooperation of the Simonds employees that have made this possible.”
