American Farriers Journal
American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
The internet is a good way to stay current on information for farriery. A new Web site from the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and a few sites from propane organizations can serve as a good resource for farriers regarding horse healthcare and propane safety respectively.
In March, the AAEP launched its Web site dedicated to horse healthcare at www.myhorsematters.com. The site allows users to search for information on preventive care, equine diseases and treatments.
Visitors can register on the site for free, becoming a member of the HorsePower Club. Membership entitles registered users to a number of features including an electronic monthly newsletter that includes health tips and the latest equine news.
It also allows you to participate in Veterinary Rounds, a live monthly chat with a veterinarian discussing a popular health topic.
Other benefits include access to Horse Talk, the site’s bulletin board and notice of special Web events, AAEP seminars and new publications. There are also a number of educational resources listed in the site’s link section.
One feature that will be added soon will allow your clients to maintain their horses’ health records. This online record keeping device will allow them to easily create and update a complete health history for each horse.
Many farriers work with propane on a daily basis, but it doesn’t hurt to brush up on your propane safety skills from time to time.
