A lightning strike killed Connor D. Clayman, a 22-year-old farrier from Springfield, Mo., during a fishing trip Saturday in the Indian Creek area of Beaver Lake in Rogers, Ark.
Clayman and his wife were fishing with a striper guide, says Keshia Guyll, spokeswoman for the Benton County Sheriff's Office. When it began to rain they headed back to shore. Lightning struck the boat. Deputies were called about 4 p.m., she says. Clayman was pronounced dead about 4:50 p.m. at Northwest Arkansas Medical Center-Bentonville, Guyll says.
It was possible lightning hit a metal rod on the boat near where the man was sitting, says Alan Bland, Army Corps of Engineers ranger.
The lightning strike incident is under investigation, Guyll says.
