Steve Fulton of Full Moon Farm LLC Farrier Service in Finksberg, Md., found out when his 9-year-old daughter, Savannah, joined his four-man crew as part of the national “Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day” in April. Savannah took her camera and notebook along and recorded the day’s events.
We thought this was a pretty good way for a child to find out a little more about how parents spend their day. And if the child writes an essay to share with a class or a group like a 4-H Club, it can help spread the work about what farriers do to help hoof care.
We don’t have space to run the entire story, but here’s a little of what Savannah had to say.
“We got there (to the stable), we had to unpack the truck. Then me and Erik went to get Taylor down from the lower barn by the indoor arena. Mr. Kevin had been working on him for awhile now. Taylor is kind of being bad because he won’t lift us his foot and when Mr. Kevin gets his foot up, Taylor won’t stand still.
“My dad is working on Sailor, not to be confused with Taylor. My dad says Sailor is being medium O.K., because he keeps wiggling around, which makes it hard to hold the foot from wriggling around.
