You don’t have to spend much time with Bill Poor and Nick Hannan to figure out that the two Texas farriers are pretty good friends. Their easy going banter, inside jokes and tales of shared adventures make that pretty obvious.
But the two of them say shoeing together is more than a chance to spend a day with a friend. It also makes good business sense.
“We like to shoe together at least a few days each week,” says Poor. “I find if I can shoe with Nick, or we can shoe with some other guys like we did yesterday, the quality of my work stays better all day long.”
The day after they teamed up for a “Shoeing For A Living” day with Paul and Bobby Simms and Zac Brown, Poor and Hannan had an easier day taking care of just a couple of horses. As they worked, they talked about the advantages of working together as well as how they’ve made it work for them.
Poor and Hannan have no trouble keeping busy. There are a lot of horses in the Houston area and Hannan notes, “We could shoe seven days a week if we wanted to.”
