It should be no surprise that Better Basics, Better Horseshoeing is so thorough that it could be used as a textbook for novice farriers.

After all, the author, Chris Gregory, owns and operates the Heartland Horseshoeing School  in Lamar, Mo., so he knows what to teach new shoers.

Gregory’s credentials also include being a certified journeyman farrier and one of the few U.S. shoers to attain membership as a prestigious Fellow of the Worshipful Company of Farriers of Great Britain. He is widely recognized for his expertise throughout the international shoeing and forging communities.

He’s also an experienced writer, having been a regular contributor to American Farriers Journal for several years. Better Basics is, in fact, a collection of many of the articles Gregory has produced for AFJ.

The result is a book that offers expertise in great detail and with such organization that it makes for a reference work suitable not only for novice shoers, but for any farrier who wants to review his or her fundamentals from time to time.

High Praise

As Danny Ward, himself a member of the International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame, a shoeing school owner/operator    and a legend in the farrier industry, says in the foreword, Better Basics offers “a step-by-step approach that’s easy to understand, is detailed and well illustrated.”

The book, he adds, “will help you become a better farrier and help you rise above the level of the everyday shoer.”
