Yakima, Wash., farrier Gary Carter passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at Cottage in the Meadow after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 72.
Carter joined the Yakima Police Department in 1965. After 13 years on the beat, he took a leave of absence to attend Bud Beaston's Oklahoma Farrier College. He loved working with the animals and became a source in creating corrective remedies for the equine patients of many veterinarians. He was very proud to have been asked to provide farrier services at a National High School Rodeo event.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Rainier Memorial Center, 2807 Terrace Heights Dr., Yakima, WA. A potluck reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his name be made to either Alzheimer’s Research or Cottage in the Meadow.
