American Farriers Journal is the “hands-on” magazine for professional farriers, equine veterinarians and horse care product and service buyers.
I am honored to be included in the 2010 class of the International Equine Veterinarians Hall Of Fame. The arrival of the plaque and your letter brought back many pleasant memories of past enjoyable practice and association with horseshoers at the Illinois Equine Hospital in Naperville, Ill.
Due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, I had to retire in 2002 and closed the Illinois Equine Hospital at the end of 2003. I’m currently home-bound with this health concern.

When I look at the names of those who have been previously inducted into the International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame, I’m overwhelmed and honored to be recognized by these members. Nothing is quite as rewarding as the recognition of one’s peers. Peer recognition takes on a special importance because it suggests an insider’s knowledge of that which is recognized — an appreciation of the challenges as well as the successes.
What a phenomenal life we have as farriers. We are one of the last bastions of free enterprise left in America and symbolize the rugged independence and self-reliance that helped make the United States the best place on Earth to live. Horseshoeing has provided me with a great life, with plenty of freedom and the dream of owning my own business.
