Harwood, Md., farrier Valerie Lee Atwell passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, of brain cancer after a 19-month illness. She was 59.
Atwell was a self-employed horse trainer and farrier. She attended the Oklahoma Farriers College in Sperry, Okla., and shod horses for more than 20 years. She loved anything to do with horses.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, Md. A prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
