After nearly 2 decades of service, a farrier supply shop in Georgia has changed hands.
Jim and Piper Steffen, founders of East Coast Horseshoe Supply Co. in Hawkinsville, Ga., announced Monday the sale of their business to Julie Lucas on April 14, 2017.
“After starting East Coast Horseshoe Supply Co. nearly 18 years ago, we have decided to enter the next chapter of our lives and move to the beautiful Florida Keys,” according to the announcement attributed to Piper Steffens.
Jim Steffen has worked as a full-time farrier for more than 30 years and fulfilled a number of roles in the harness racing industry. In addition to her involvement with horses, Piper Steffen has been in business management and accounting for more than 20 years.
Lucas brings lifelong experience with horses and specific involvement with harness racing as a trainer and rider, as well as racetrack management, according to the announcement. They assured customers that the same quality products and more could be expected from the company under her ownership, stating that she would “bring fresh perspective and ideas.”
After 17 years of business in the horseshoeing industry, the Steffens expressed gratitude as they looked to the future.
“We’re very grateful for our business/friendship relationship through the years, and hope you will welcome Julie into our family and extend her the opportunity to continue to be your farrier supply company,” according to the announcement. “We are going to miss each and every one!”
