AAEP Presents Awards 

During the mid-November meeting of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) in San Antonio, Texas, several awards were presented for outstanding service:

Peter Timoney, professor and the Frederick Van Lennep Chair in Equine Veterinary Science at the University of Kentucky’s Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award.

Harry Werner, former AAEP president, was awarded the Distin­guished Life Member.

Amy Grice, retired managing part­ner of Rhinebeck Equine in Rhine­beck, N.Y., and Stuart Brown, a partner in Hagyard Equine Medical In­stitute in Lexington, Ky., were awarded the President’s Award.

Introduced as 2018 AAEP president was Margo Macpherson, a tenured professor of reproduction and former chief of reproduction services at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. David Frisbie, a professor at Colorado State University (CSU), director of research at CSU’s Orthopaedic Research Center and interim director of operations at the university’s C. Wayne McIlwraith Translational Medicine Institute, was installed as vice president.

Foster Northrop of Northrop Equine in Louis­ville, Ky.; Deborah Spike-Pierce, of Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky.; and Duane Chap­pell, of Merck Ani­mal Health; joined the board of directors. The 3-year terms expire in 2020.
