How Improper Saddle Position Can Impact Rider’s Weight Distribution
A recent British study found many riders are using improper tack, which results in improper saddle positioning. This has the potential to cause problems for both riders and their horses.
Susan Dyson, head of clinical orthopedics at the Centre for Equine Studies at the Animal Health Trust, says the study found only 11% of riders were properly aligned, an indication of a well-fitted saddle.
Some 53% of the riders were considered too large or heavy for their saddles while 36% of the riders appeared to be sitting too far back in the saddle.
