Bob McCarthy, a farrier from Medford, Mass., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, after a short illness. McCarthy served as a teacher and mentor to generations of younger farriers, including Myron McLane, a member of the International Horseshoeing Hall Of Fame. McLane said McCarthy, a past president of the Southern New England Farriers Association, was widely considered one of the finest shoers of hunters and jumpers in New England. He was also honored at the New England Equitation Championships with a Lifetime Achievement Award and also served as a teacher and mentor to generations of younger farriers.
