The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a farrier to work in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 2 years as an active farrier. A high school diploma or GED is required, as well as proper licenses to drive and operate machinery associated with this position.

Typical duties include: performing corrective or therapeutic trimming and shoeing as well as regular shoeing and trimming; examining the horses for lameness; identifying causes of laminitis; collecting and recording information on each horse regarding treatment, etc.; maintaining a clean and inventoried work space; assisting in teaching farrier techniques to students; organizing demonstrations for open houses or other special occasions; providing invoices and receiving payment from clients for farrier services; and performing other duties as assigned.

This position is a full-time, benefits-eligible civil service position. The typical work schedule will be Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week. The salary will be based on experience. Candidates must be willing to submit to a background check upon accepting an offer. Other pre-employment checks may be required.
