Shane Westman (Davis, Calif.)

I met Shane Westman early in my career as a farrier and he has been a great friend and mentor throughout my entire career. Shane has always been on the sidelines being a cheerleader for me and all the farriers he comes in contact with. Several years ago, I got to spend a week with Shane at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital where he is the resident farrier. That week was an incredible learning opportunity for me. He went over everything from the use of synthetics such as Polyflex to dealing with keratomas to white line disease and everything else you would want to learn. Shane is what other farriers should strive to be. Shane is a well-rounded farrier with a cheerleader attitude. I know whenever I need to have a listening ear to a farrier, personal or financial question, Shane will always be there to offer counsel. Like I said, he is a role model of what farriers should be.
