Aroda, Va., farrier G. Alan Spivey passed away suddenly Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, at his home. He was 70.

Spivey was recognized as a 4-H All-Star, which is the highest recognition that a Virginia 4-H member can achieve. He was a Virginia State 4-H Horse Show announcer for more than 50 years. He was president and founding member of the Central Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, president of Virginia Cattleman’s Association, president of the Virginia Simmental Association, president of the Virginia Forage and Grasslands Council and chairman of the Madison County Fair. His relationships with his shoeing clients and farming friends were a highlight for him.
