Marshall, Ill., farrier Richard “Dick” Gustafson passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was 65.
After graduating from Marshall High School in 1975 and marrying Cartha Wernz in 1979, Gustafson attended Midwest Horseshoeing School and embarked on a farrier career that spanned more than 30 years.
Music played a significant role in the Gustafson’s lives. The couple met through music and played trumpet together in the Marshall City Band. Their accomplishments culminated in their induction into the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame.
The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5. 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall Schools Music Boosters Camp Scholarship Fund and the Marshall City Band.
