A free sample of cannabidiol — or CBD — was life-changing for Renee Vandenberg. Now, she hopes it helps horses and farriers
The De Pere, Wis., organic farmer and horse trainer was suffering from debilitating nerve pain for several years following a car crash.
“I was rear-ended by a drunk driver,” Vandenberg says. “He was going 60 mph, and I was at a stop sign. The impact broke my seat back and dislocated my clavicle. The pain was so severe that I couldn’t even cut up an onion or lift a bedsheet to put it over me.”
A military veteran’s group approached Vandenberg to grow hemp for them on the family's 200-acre farm, which is one of the largest certified organic farms in the Green Bay, Wis., area. During a meeting to discuss the arrangement, Vandenberg was given a free sample of CBD to try.
“It was just the most amazing thing that ever happened to me,” she says. “I’d been going to bed crying every night for years.”
Although CBD provided Vandenberg with nerve pain relief, she’s quick to point out that it’s not a cure-all.
