The pace of technological developments can be dizzying at times, and the concept of invisible data flying through the atmosphere or stored in ‘the cloud’ can be hard to wrap your head around. However, the ultimate advantages of incorporating some form of computer record keeping into your business can offset any learning curve, once you get the hang of the new system.
Farrier Tim Silcox says transitioning to computerized resources required re-thinking his workflow, but now it’s part of his daily work life.
“You have to take the time and move your schedule around during the day so you can input things as you go,” says the Cross Lake, Minn., farrier. It requires a little bit of self-training, but how long does it take to put in your mileage and receipt at the gas station? That way all your paperwork is already done by the time you get home, and you don’t have to sit at the kitchen table after you’ve been shoeing all day.”
