Robert Richards is coming across dry frogs in his area of Michigan. He's curious if there are supplements to help prevent dry frogs.
Have you noticed drier frogs this season? What do you do to address them above solid farrier practices?
He posted this question in the AFJ Farriers' Forum.
A few years ago a farrier friend of mime told me about a mixture he uses to help prevent dry frogs and cracking hoofs. It is 1- 1 cup DMSO. 2- 1 quart pine tar. 3- 1 quart turpentine. 4- 1 quart linseed oil. 5- 1 quart used motor oil mixed and painted onto hoof and sole with a paint brush. I have been using it since on every horse I shoe and it has made quite a difference.
