Ric Redden has reopened his equine podiatry practice in Versailles, Ky., and will treat diseases and injuries associated with the equine foot on a strict outpatient basis. “Two and a half years ago, I leased my clinic and sold my Kentucky practice in an attempt to retire,” says the International Equine Veterinarian Hall Of Fame member. “However, I found myself working day after day on tough cases and spending less time in my art studio. So my wife, Nancy, and I decided we would procure the clinic and revitalize my podiatry practice.”

His specialty practice will offer treatment and prevention of laminitis, white line disease, quarter cracks, puncture wounds, fractures and other career- and life-threatening diseases and injuries of the equine foot.

“There are unlimited hurdles to cross in the field of equine podiatry,” says the farrier and Ohio State University veterinary school graduate. “I wish to use my clinic as an outreach to owners, trainers, vets and farriers, and work as a consultant for individuals looking for help as they manage podiatry issues.”

At Southern Pines, N.C., Richard Mansmann is opening a podiatry and rehabilitation service at the North Carolina Equine Health Center. In this North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine outreach clinic that already emphasizes reproduction and ophthalmology, Mansmann will deal with preventing the progression of poor foot conformation and working with chronic laminitis on an outpatient basis.
