In an election year, there is always much unrest and many questions in the back of people’s minds as to the future of the American Farrier’s Association (AFA).
What direction is it headed? Where does it need to be headed? The answer for me is simple — right next to the horse.
If we as an association stay as close to the horse as possible, we can focus easily on the thing that matters most — the well being of the horse. Think about it for a few seconds.
When the horse is present at a clinic or for a group of farriers getting together to shoe, the horse is the final judge as whether or not the task at hand was properly done.
The week before Super Bowl Sunday, every TV and radio station on the face of the planet is giving its play-by-play analysis of what is going to happen in that game; what players are going to do; who will be the most valuable player; sometimes even the exact score, quarter by quarter.
The farther from the game you get, the more armchair quarterbacks you meet. You gas your truck up at a convenience store and the clerk asks if you’re a football fan and tells you who you should be rooting for.
Everyone’s an expert, but they still play the game because nobody — not even down on the field in the huddle — knows who is going to win until they are done…
