Texas A&M University equine veterinarian Robin Dabareiner told attendees at the late November American Association of Equine Practitioners meeting in San Diego, Calif., that they’ll learn much more about the hoof by paying more attention to it. “Just by looking at the hoof more, I’ve learned an awful lot and realized that trimming is more important than shoeing,” she says. “With better trimming, horses are staying sounder longer and doing so with less drugs.”
In a study conducted by Warren Katz at the Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa., 42 people suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome participated in two yoga classes per week for 8 weeks. They practiced yoga postures for strengthening, stretching and balancing the joints in the upper body as well as promoting relaxation.
Katz says these yoga participants reported significant improvement in pain reduction and grip strength compared to control group members. Yoga was much more effective than the standard treatment of placing a wrist in a splint for carpal tunnel treatment used with the control group.
