Make your plans now to attend the American Farrier’s Association (AFA) convention in Lexington, Ky., which is only a few weeks away. All AFA members should have received their convention packets during the early part of January.
The convention opens on Tuesday, March 5, with the forging contest followed on Wednesday with the live shoeing contest and the opening of the Marketplace at 4 p.m. The 2002 Marketplace is shaping up to be the largest one ever at an AFA convention with more than 200 booths displaying everything a farrier would need for horseshoeing from nails to farrier rigs. The Marketplace also will be open on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.
There also will be a contest in Lexington to award cash prizes to the top farrier rigs in the country as selected by fellow farriers. So clean up your rig and plan on entering it in the contest! We will have three categories of rig competition: full body, truck cap and trailer rigs. Each convention registrant will be allowed to vote for the best rig in each of the three categories with the winners receiving their prize money at the banquet on Saturday evening.
The educational lectures begin on Thursday morning and run until Saturday afternoon.
